Bottom of Wheeler Gate / Top of Wheeler Gate

WHEELER GATE.

OUR first illustration is viewed from St. Peter's Square. The corner of Hounds Gate on the left, where the "Star" public-house existed, has been transformed into a retail clothing establishment. Part of Swann's provision stores, on the opposite side, was taken down to widen the roadway, and the other portion rebuilt to form one of a series of up-to-date shops.

From our second view, looking from the Market, it will be observed that several notable alterations have taken place. Lamb's shop, on the left, has been pulled down and a modern building erected, albeit set back some few yards from its original position. On the other side, the "Old Moot Hall" has been entirely rebuilt, and, in this instance, a modern type of building gives way to the half-timbered, Elizabethan style of architecture.
