THE GREAT FLOOD OF 1875.
THE greatest flood of recent years, locally, was that of July 23rd, 1875. In consequence of the abnormal quantity of rain the river Trent overflowed its banks to such an extent as to be unprecedented at this season of the year, many of the buildings southwards of the Midland Railway being quite inundated. This flood was equal in height to that of the year 1869, and lower by a foot-and-a-half than the memorable one of 1852. It was ascertained to be thirteen feet three inches
