Guild Roll acquired by Nottinghamshire Archives
The Guild Roll of the Guild of St Mary, Nottingham, dating from 1371 has been acquired by Nottinghamshire Archives.

Stone Age flint tool found in Bingham
A 400,000 year old flint tool has been discovered in a field in Bingham.

A roll dating from the middle ages is on sale for £7,000
A roll listing 147 members of the Guild of St Mary's, Nottingham, may leave the UK, unless £7,000 can be found to buy it. Culture Minister David Lammy has placed a temporary export ban on the roll of the "Gyld of St Mary in her own church, Nottingham, on the Feast of St Michael, 1371". The document is the only one of its kind for Nottingham, and one of very few in the country.

Bassetlaw Museum celebrates after receiving major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund
Bassetlaw Museum is to received a grant of £685,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The money will go towards revamping the museum and attracting more visitors.

Newark and Sherwood Museums Service has acquired a beautiful and rare 2,000-year-old gold torc, with help from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF).

A heritage trail which traces the historic landmarks of the English Civil War period in Newark town centre was officially unveiled on the 8th May.

St Paulinus baptising people in the River Trent at Littleborough
BBC Radio 4's Making History programme contains an interview with Mike Bishop, Nottinghamshire's County Archaeologist, about a reference in Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People to St Paulinus baptising people in the River Trent at a place called 'Tiowulfingacaestir', traditionally identified with Littleborough. The programme was originally broadcast on 3 January but can be listened to again online.

Trent and Peak Archaeological Unit are currently excavating a site at Weekday Cross in Nottingham's historic Lace Market.

Big Lottery Fund award for Bestwood Winding Engine House
Bestwood Winding Engine House in Bestwood Country Park has been award a grant of £963,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. New educational facilites and a park ranger's office are also planned.

Nottingham City Council buys rare Norman silver penny
The coin shows the bust of William the Conqueror carrying two sceptres, after he had been crowned King William I, and was struck at the Nottingham Mint, which was probably located at Shelford, near Radclilffe-on-Trent.

Rare Victorian film treasures to be screened again
The Moving Image Archive for Central England, based at Nottingham University, has rescued and preserved three extremely rare examples of Victorian cinema, along with a newsreel from the First World War showing women cleaning windows in Nottingham. The restored films will be screened at a series of regional film shows. Wollaton Hall closed for £6.75 million restoration work
Wollaton Hall will be closed until the New Year while work is undertaken on the Grade I listed Elizabethan mansion. The Park, the Yard Gallery and industrial museum will remain open throughout the work.

Greasley lost village
Archaeologists from the University of Oxford are spending several days in fields near to Greasley parish church to determine the location of the deserted medieval village. They will use remote sensing techniques, rather than excavation, to evaluate the site.

Renovating Clifton Hall
Clifton Hall and its grounds are being renovated after being bought by Nottinghamshire businessman, Chek Whyte. Help is being sought from local historians to restore the grounds to their former glory.

The hunt for the castle at East Bridgford
East Bridgford Local History Group has been awarded £13,690 to investigate a possible motte and bailey castle on Pancake Hill.
