To be buried in chapel of the parish church of S'. Mary on the south side (ex parte australi).

For Mortuary my best horse with saddle, bridle, and my sword.

In wax for funeral, 4 marks.

To 6 poor and needy men for black gowns, to carry and hold candles around my body on the day of my burial, 24s.

To Prior and Convent of Lenton for forgotten tithes, £10.

To Agnes, my wife, £120, for dower, also 30 qrs. of wheat, 20 qrs. siliginis, 40 of barley, and 50 of pease.

To Richard Samon, my son and heir, all my sheep, wains, &c., and £20.

To Margaret, dau. of sd. Richard, for her marriage, 10 marks.

To Agnes, dau. of Roger Floure of Okam, for her marriage, 10 marks.

To sd. Agnes my wife, my tenement in the High Pavement opposite St. Mary's Church, also another tenement on the High Pavement, one on the Pavement, one in Brydilsmythgate, one in the Mersh of Nottingham, 3 cottages in Brydilsmythgate next a lane called Pepir Street, also a tenement in Smyth-rows, to hold for her life, and after her decease to remain to sd. Richard my son and heir, for ever.

I give 3 cottages in the Cowelane for the habitation of three poor men for ever, at the repair of my son and his heirs.

I give a yearly rent of 6s. 8d., issuing out of a tenement in Brydilsmythgate next a lane leading to St. Peter's Church, to sustain a lamp burning in the chapel on south side of S' Mary's, Nottingham.

To sd. Richard Samon, my son, the reversion of all my lands, also that capital tenement in which I dwell in le Gret Smythgate, with my rents, reversions, &c., in the towns of Nottingham, Gotham, Newton, Cowyk, Thrumpton, Hemsell, and Eyton in Co. Derby with the advowson of the church of Gotham.

To Sir William Ode, Vicar of the church of St. Mary, 40s.

To Thomas Samon, 40s. To Richard Pees, chaplain, 20s.

I will that my clothing be divided among my servants.

To Agnes my wife, and Richard my son, all my jewels, goods, vessels, and household utensils.

Residue to Agnes my wife and Richard my son, whom I make Executors, with Sir Willm. Ode, Vicar of the church of S'. Mary, Nottm and Thomas Samon.

To sd. Thomas, a garden in the Stoney Street of Notyngham.

All my lands, tenements, &c., in Nottingham, except above garden, to my children, according to the custom of the burgesses of Notyngham, and if they die without issue, to the right heirs of Richard Samon my uncle (avunculus).

Residue to Agnes, my wife, to sustain herself and children.

Will of Alice, late Wife of John Tannesley.

Date. In feast of S'. William, Archbp. of York, 1439, & 17th Hen. VI.

To be buried in the church of St. Mary, Nottingham, in the chapel of S'. John Baptist on the north side of that church, next the body of the sd. John Tannesley, lately my husband, or where God shall will.

Mortuary my best horse with saddle, that it may go before my body, or 40s. at the election of the Rector of the afsd church.

In wax for my burial, 60 lbs, for candles, and 6 torches of which 2 shall remain for the high altar of the same church, 2 for the churches of St Peter and St. Nicholas, and 2 for the Friars Minor and Carmelite.

To the Vicar of the same church to pray for my soul, 13s. 4d., and 1 towel 6 yards long.

To every chaplain coming to my exequies, 6d.

For calling together my friends to my burial, £ 10.

To distribute among the poor there, xoos, viz. to everyone 1d.

To the poor and weak lying in divers infirmaries within Nottingham and outside, according to the discretion of my Executors.

I will that every poor person coming to my burial distribution, shall eat, and sit at table and have food and drink sufficient.

To the Friars Minor of Nottingham, 13s. 4d.

To the Friars Carmelite of Nottingham, 13s. 4d.

To the Anchoret of Sl. Nicholas there, 6s. 8d., and 1 double mantle.

To the poor widows at the end of Nottingham bridge, 3s. 4d.

To the fabric of the bridge of Hebeth, 20s.

To the Prior and Convent of Shelford, 40s, and to pray for me, 6s. 8d.

To the Abbot and Convent of Dale, 13s. 4d., and to pray for me, 6s. 8d.

For a worthy chaplain to celebrate in the chapel of S'. John Baptist, in the sd. church of St Mary, Nottingham, for my soul and the souls of John Tannesley my husband, Henry Brademar, and Cecily his wife, and all my benefactors, for 20 years, Robt. Hikkling, my chaplain, to be the chaplain as long as he live, £93 6s. 8d., viz. : 7 marks a year.

To Agnes Fereby, my daughter, a messuage in Fishergate, Nottingham, between a tenement of John Wolloton on the W., and a tenement of John Samon on the E., also a messuage in the Stonestrete, in Nottm, and

2 cottages in the Walsegate, next a way called Mari-gate. And if she die without issue, ½ to John, son of Ralph Makerell and issue, and ½ to Cecily Wentworth, my daughter and issue, with remainder to Elizabeth Widmerpole, daughter of Margaret Humbrestone, my daughter and her issue.

To William Plomtre, my servant, the cottage he dwells in for life, with reversion to my said daughter Agnes.

To Nich. Widemerpole and Elizth his wife, a messuage in Fleshewergate, Nottingham, on condition to sustain every year in future times a certain anniversary, and my obit on the day of my burial for ever, according to the use and custom of the sd. town of Nottingham in the sd. church of St. Mary, to the value of at least 20s. a year, to pray for my soul and the souls of John Tannesley, my husband, Henry Bradmer and Cecilia his wife, my father and mother, and all the faithful departed.

If Executors fail, then the masters and wardens of the said church of St. Mary for the time being shall sell said lands, tenements, &c., and provide for my soul's welfare as they and 3 Burgesses, of Nottm, shall think best.

To Alice, daugher of sd. Agnes, 6 silver spoons, and to each of her 2 sisters, 3.

To Margaret my daughter, 1 mazer with coat of St George, and a great cup with silver cover called le Bott, for her life, and after her death to John Makerell and Ralph his brother, sons of Ralph Makerell.

To Cecily Poge, 1 set of silver beads with crucifix pendent.

To Thomas Poge, 1 small mazer and 6 silver spoons.

To Elizth. Widemerepole, 1 mazer with image of St. Thomas of Canterbury.

To Margt. Hilton, Ellen Tykhill, Margt Mawerr, Agnes Parker, Cecily Blackburn, Isabel More, and Alice Rodyngton, small legacies.

Executors: Ric. Wentworth, Willm. Clifton, Rector of Wilford, and Nicholas Wydemerepole.

Residue to Ric. Wentworth, and Cecily his wife, my daughter.

I bequeath my saule to God Almighty, and to oure lady, Seynt Marie, and to all the holy company of heven, and my bodie to be beried in the chirch of God, called Seynt Marie Church, in Nottingham.

To Cecill my wiffe, all my lyvelod in Notingham, in Kathorp, Fryston, and Wolbeke, in Lyncolnshire, during her liffe and then,

To Michell, my eldest sonne, my cheyff place in Notingham, and 2 placez in Bridsmythgate. Also my lyvelod in Kathorp, Fryston, and Wolbeke, in Lyncolnshire.

To Robert, my son, the Tilehouse and all that longith thereto.
